Sharpie mugs have been a thing for a while now. They’re all over Pinterest and I can see why: you can draw ANY design onto a mug, bake it for a bit, and make it water resistant! Perfect!
I decided to make not mugs, but DIY sharpie bowls instead. Gotta stay different, right? Also because I just really don’t need more mugs. Perks of having a tea obsession.
I got these four plain white bowls at Action for €2,50.
Before you start, wipe off the surface you want to draw on with some rubbing alcohol or vinegar to remove any dirt or grease.
Then you can go in with your Sharpie or permanent marker, and draw whatever you want! You can do a pattern, florals, names of family members, quotes, whatever you like. I decided to go with a little something to encourage people to love whatever I serve them in these bowls!
I used a permanent marker, since we don’t have Sharpie in the Netherlands. Both work just fine.
I ended up drawing a little heart at the bottom, as a reward for good girls and boys who finish their food.
Now you just need to pop the bowls into an oven. Set the oven to 200°C, but don’t pre-heat it. Place the bowls into the oven for 30 minutes to heat up, then leave them in the oven until it’s cooled back down.
Your bowls are done! The design should be pretty durable, but I’d recommend washing it gently by hand just to be sure. I’ve heard it comes off in the dishwasher for some people.
Have fun, and good luck!
