Benefit Dew the Hoola

The Hoola bronzer by Benefit has been many a girl’s favourite for years. With its formula that doesn’t contain red pigments, it’s supposed to adapt to and suit any skin tone. Benefit have now decided to turn their best-selling bronzer Hoola into a whole range, which was presented to me and other bloggers recently during a fun tropical party in Rotterdam. One of the new additions to the Hoola family is the liquid version of the bronzer: Dew The Hoola. I got to bring it home and have put it to the test!

The product comes in this adorable bronze bamboo stick with a pump inside. I love the packaging; it’s super cute (although: fingerprints galore) and the pump is practical and hygienic. Once you figure out how much product you need for a full face, it’s quite easy to dose.

This is what the product itself looks like. The formula is nice, the consistency is quite fluid but still creamy enough to give you control over where it goes. It’s crazy pigmented though, this little pump was way too much for my face, as you can see in the pictures below.

I applied Dew the Hoola across the top of my forehead, on my temples, underneath my cheekbones, on my jawline, and along the sides of my nose. Using my fingers. Quite heavily. Oops.

I have very little experience with bronzer (I prefer a pale look on myself) so seeing myself with such a tan face took some getting used to. I’d applied way too much, truly a tiny bit goes a long way with this product. It dries very quickly too, so you need to blend everything out really fast. I’d also recommend using a beauty blender or brush to apply it, I found applying it with my hands quite messy.

However, when you get the application right and looking back at these pictures that I found way overdone when I took them, I have to say it does look incredibly natural (albeit heavy and out of place ATM). The colour is exactly what I look like when I get a sun tan, and it doesn’t have that unnatural bright orange cast that you sometimes get from bronzers. It’s also worth mentioning that the formula is completely matte; no disco-ball face!

This being a liquid product, you can mix it with your foundation for an even all-over tan (which I’d never do, but it’s definitely an option), but it works great as a regular bronzer or contour as well. It has great lasting power, once it’s dry, it stays. I have to say I’m very pleasantly surprised by this product, and come summer I may even reach for it every now and then, haha!

Benfit Dew the Hoola is available in perfume stores in the Netherlands for €30,50.

    1. Ach, ik heb liever dat het iets te snel droogt dan iets te langzaam, nu gaat het ten minste niet vlekken :) Er is best goed mee te werken!
