We’re doing something a little bit different today- a toothbrush review! For yes, this baby pink device is in fact a toothbrush, and not something you might keep in your bedside table ;) The ISSA 3 is the newest launch in the ISSA toothbrush line by luxury beauty brand FOREO Sweden. I’ve talked about their skin care devices before on my blog, and when they asked me if I’d like to try out their silicone toothbrush, I was intrigued to say the least.
Oral hygiene is something I take very seriously. I’m determined to keep my own, natural teeth into old age for as long as I can, and given that I’m an avid tea drinker, I need to stay on top of those stains as well.
Back when I used a manual toothbrush, I often felt like it didn’t clean my teeth thoroughly enough. It’s customary in the Netherlands to have dental checkups twice yearly, and on one of those checkups my dentist recommended I start using an electric toothbrush instead. That was a huge step up: my teeth were whiter, felt more polished, and the brushing itself was more effortless. However, I have a tendency to push down on my toothbrush much too hard. Bad habit, I know, but so hard to drop. Not only did I burn through brush heads like crazy, but my dentist actually warned me it was starting to look like my vigorous brushing was pushing back my gums. Oops! But here’s where the ISSA 3 comes in.

What It Is
FOREO ISSA 3 is a 4-in-1 oral care revolution: an electric toothbrush that combines sonic pulse technology with an innovative, bacteria-resistant, silicone hybrid brush head. Instead of rotating or sweeping like other electric toothbrushes do, the ISSA 3 pulses at 16 customizable speeds so you have full control over the intensity of the sonic pulsations that help boost your brushing.
The hybrid wave brush head is made up of medical-grade silicone bristles along the edge that give your teeth a gentle but thorough cleaning, while also massaging the gums. The center of the brush head consists of PBT polymer bristles, which break up and remove plaque. The silicone bristles are non-porous, making them bacteria-resistant, hygienic, quick-drying and long-lasting. A single brush head lasts up to six months, or a whole year if you choose the 100% silicone option made for sensitive gums.
ISSA 3 is rechargeable, and lasts a whole year on a single charge. Since using this, I’ve finally been able to get the unsightly docking station and cable that came with my old toothbrush away out of sight. Added bonus: ISSA 3 is fully waterproof, so you can use and keep it in the shower.
It comes in four colours: mint, cobalt blue, cool black and pearl pink, which is the one I have.
The ISSA toothbrush is perfectly suitable for travel as well- it’s lightweight, comes with a travel case, and features a travel lock so it doesn’t turn on accidentally. Since it lasts so long on a single charge, you don’t have to bring a charger, either.
What It Does
FOREO ISSA 3 offers the best of both worlds. It gives me all the benefits of an electric toothbrush; a clean feeling and a brighter smile, while also protecting my enamel and gums from brushing too hard. The silicone bristles provide a gentle gum massage and prevent me from pushing down too hard on the bristles in the center, which work to scrub my teeth nice and clean.
ISSA 3 is clinically proven to improve oral hygiene by 140%, reduce gingivitis, and remove 30% more plaque than a manual toothbrush.
I love how ISSA guides me through my brushing routine by giving a little buzz every 30 seconds, telling me it’s time to move on to the next quadrant of my teeth. After two minutes it buzzes three times to indicate the recommended brushing time is over. After three minutes, it’ll automatically shut off. This way I’m sure I’m brushing thoroughly enough, but never over-brushing my teeth.
Since ISSA 3 pulses instead of rotating, I can brush my teeth as I would with a manual toothbrush. I really enjoy that; it makes me feel like I’m actually doing something, and feels familiar and natural. This makes ISSA 3 incredibly easy to use, as the brushing process is literally the same as with a manual toothbrush. I just turn on the brush, which remembers my preferred pulsation intensity, and let the short pulses guide me through a 2-minute brushing routine.
The back of the brush head features ridges which work as a tongue and cheek cleaner while you’re brushing.
When I first went to try out this toothbrush, I didn’t expect there was much to be improved in the world of dental care. Boy was I wrong! The FOREO ISSA 3 is definitely a valuable addition to my daily hygiene routine, and a very unique device at that. I have every intention of using this for a long time to come!
