Greetings on this beautiful sunny Monday afternoon! Hopefully you’ve enjoyed your weekend and are all re-charged for a new work week. I spent my weekend in Bratislava with Robbert, who came over to finally meet my grandparents. More on that later in this photo diary, let’s start at the beginning.
This is what I like to call “Yoga with Diarmuid”. He has a repertoire of amazing stretches and looks like the most chilled and comfortable rattie in the world.
I wish I was as comfortable as him, but unfortunately I got hit by a bout of the worst cramps I had experienced in ages. I never used to get heavy cramps, but this one left me unable to do anything besides lying on the sofa.
A bunch of you sent me your best cramp beating tips and well wishes and that cheered me right up. I ended up taking some pain relief which helped after a while, and I was able to get back up again and do what I had to do that day.
Outfit of the day. I love this long green blazer, really need to find more ways to style it.
I’m so happy all the yummy fruit is coming back in season! I’m honestly not a huge fan of apples, which is about all you can get in winter over here aside from the stuff that crossed half the planet and has no flavour. Now that the berries and peaches and watermelons are back, I’ve been eating a lot more fruit again. It’s funny how I used to be such an autumn & winter person, but now I undeniably prefer spring & summer. I just love the sun, I guess :)
I went over to dance class in the evening and then hopped by my parents’ house. I love watching this sunset over the lake… Before I moved to Amsterdam I used to see this every week. So beautiful.
I finally get to wear contacts again! The optician gave me a few single use contacts to try and see how my eyes react to them, but honestly I’ve only tried one set so far. I’ve gotten so used to wearing glasses that it doesn’t bother me at all anymore and I actually find it much more hassle free. The only time I really miss wearing contacts is during filming, because glasses aren’t always practical and when I take them off I can’t see what I’m doing.
So I popped in my contacts and got to filming! I tried following a 1960’s makeup tutorial and filmed the process. It was a lot of fun to do and got received very well, so I’d definitely like to do more of these.
Pádraig sometimes likes to sleep under the bedding. I think he thinks we can’t tell he’s there, it’s adorable. He came out when I tried to take a picture though, haha!
The boys! Little grandpa Llewelyn is massively breaking my rattie age record at the moment, as he’s going on 2.5 years. He needs a lot of care now, but is still a happy chap so I don’t mind providing whatever he needs and spoiling him a bit. At the moment he can’t really use his legs any more, but crawling around under the blanket is still one of his favourite things to do, bless him.
I told you last week about Pádraig’s destructive tendencies. Well, I tried reading a magazine… Hahaha! I’ll admit I let him at it here as I was planning to get rid of this magazine anyway, but oh my he knows how to shred :)
I got a new moisturizer from the new natural & vegan cosmetics line at Kruidvat, and while I was at it I got some makeup wipes from the same line and a toothbrush for travelling. I wanted to get an eco friendly toothbrush, and it took visiting three different stores before I found one. But here it is! A biodegradable toothbrush. Hopefully it lasts me a long time, as I only plan to use it while travelling.
Like this weekend! Robbert and I went over to my birth town Bratislava to visit my grandparents.
We went on a little tour through the city center, which was absolutely lovely. We stopped by the castle which I believe I’ve only visited once, when I was little. The weather was amazing, sunny and warm but not scorching hot. Just perfect for a city trip! In the evening the two of us went out for dinner in town, something I think we should do more often at home as well. It’s just that we’re such homebodies, haha :)
We spent Sunday morning in my grandparents’ garden, where my grandpa gave us a little shooting course on the air gun he’d borrowed from a friend. Neither Robbert nor I had ever done this before and I loved it, hahaha! I wasn’t too bad at it but Robbert turned out to be a true natural. Good to know in case there’s a zombie apocalypse.
In the afternoon the time came to go home already. It was a short stay, but very sweet. Getting to spend some quality time with my family was great and I’m so happy they finally got to meet Robbert. After seven years it was about time! I can’t wait to come back again, luckily I have my next trip over planned in just two months.
It’s only been three days but it feels like I’ve been gone a week. Getting back into the swing of things after a holiday always takes a bit of adjusting and that’s exactly what I’m doing today, haha! I hope you have a wonderful week, everybody. Talk to you soon!
If I’d be to visit Bratislava, would I find my way around with English or would Google Translate be my new best friend?
Definitely Google. People who work in services in the city center might know a bit of English, but I wouldn’t count on it
Thank you. I will study a bit beforehand if I decide to go one day! :)
