All The Vegan Food | Loepsie’s Life

Good day to you! I’m writing from an extremely noisy, largely plastic-covered apartment. This week someone’s cleaning and re-lining our sewage pipes, which means we can’t use the water system until Friday evening. You never realise how much you use these commodities we take for granted until you don’t have access to them! We also have to be home all week to let the workers in, so we’ll have to re-fill water bottles somewhere and use a little porta potty, haha! Simultaneously, one of our upstairs neighbours has decided to renovate their entire apartment, which means we’re stuck here with constant loud drilling and banging sounds. I wonder how many days we’ll last before losing our minds ;) Just kidding, I’m sure we’ll make it through just fine. Anyways, enough complaining, I’m here to show you what I was up to last week! Let’s take a look at the photos I took.

On Monday I met up with my friend at SLA for lunch. SLA is a chain of salad bars and they have the best salads and bowls I’ve ever found anywhere, hands down. They’re delicious, nutricious, and the portions are lange enough to actyally fill you up. Love it!

Well then, this is what we’ve gotten ourselves into over here. The recycling bins are the rats’ favourite place to run to during free range time, in hopes they’ll find little crumbs at the bottom of food wrappings, of course. They don’t heed the tidiness of the house much, though :)

Having them wear little bells works wonderfully, by the way! Always knowing where they are is very re-assuring, although there are definitely still a few spots around the living room/kitchen we need to cover up so they don’t get under built-in furniture, for example. That has happened a few times now and luckily I’ve always been able to get them to come out by shaking the treat box, but it’s super dangerous and gives me a proper scare every time.

Don’t ask me how, but I managed to film five videos this week. FIVE! I needed to have a few ready to get through the whole sewage situation this week, but I wasn’t expecting to finish this many. I’m quite pleased with myself, haha!

One of the videos I filmed was the one where I react to your assumptions about me. I’ve wanted to film that video for a long time as I love the concept and I love watching these from other YouTubers, but I was a little terrified of what assumptions people might actually have about me. It was actually lots of fun to do, though! I’m happy to see I come across on camera largely the same as I am in real life.

Robbert and I recently cancelled our TV subscription, so we had to return the receiver. What we thought would simply be a case of unplugging it and boxing it up, turned out to take over an hour. The cables of our TV and media devices got all jumbled up behind the bookcases so we had to unscrew them, take down the plants and books, and move the bookcases to get the cable out. We did it though, and now we’re finally rid of the pesky thing which was about 15 meters long, for some inexplicable reason. No wonder it got tangled up.

I’ve been trying to find and gather all the pieces that go into this costume for a few days now, they’re scattered between my house and my parents’ so it’s been a bit of a challenge. I think I’ve nearly got it all now, though, which is good because Elfia is next week! I’m planning to re-use this costume as I think it’s one of my better ones to date. Can’t wait for it :)

Oh my guys, last week brought two beautifully warm and sunny days. I put the cushions back on the balcony furniture and we were able to sit out there for a bit and bask in the sunshine, which was lovely. I really can’t wait for the warmer days of spring and summer.

Bran the jingling explorer. The floor is not challenging enough for him any more, so he’s stared climbing into cabinets and onto tables. I have to admit, I feel like he’s significantly speeding up the process of my hair turning grey, but I can’t be mad at him. Little guy is having the time of his life.

My family and I went out to have sushi to celebrate my mom’s birthday. I’ve mentioned before how scared I am of fish, but this one in the fish tank at the restaurant looked so awkwardly excited I had to snap a quick picture, haha!

I filmed another video where I’m recreating an old photograph, and when I was done I was happily surprised I was able to turn the wild, curly hairstyle into a nice and tame brushout.

It looked a bit odd with my scouting uniform though, haha :)

Speaking of scouting, this week we tie-dyed some T-shirts. Or well, I tie-dyed a pair of socks as that was the only white item I had in my closet that I was willing to give up for this purpose. I’m really excited to see how they come out!

Cuddle pile! Oh, how often I’ve wished I could shrink to rat size and get in there with them. It must be the softest, warmest cuddle ever.

It’s been forever, but I finally started a new knitting project. And I actually have a plan this time! Last summer I got a book with knitting patterns for cardigans and ponchos which are actually fashionable and not something straight out of the ’80s. I’m only getting around to it now but I can’t wait to have finished my very own, hand-made cardigan. I’ve never knitted a sweater that was actually wearable so this is very exciting for me.

The glass filter in my new tea pot doesn’t work too great with a tea bag inside, haha :) It did produce this really cool effect in the pot, though.

I love watching my herbs come back to life on the balcony. More and more new leaves are shooting up every day!

Yesterday I took my bestie out for dinner to celebrate her birthday. We went to Mr & Mrs Watson, a vegan restaurant in East Amsterdam. They’re highly praised and specialise in vegan cheeses, so of course we had to try their cheese platter. The cheeses were really good, but I can’t say they tasted like cheese. It’s a whole new flavour, but absolutely delicious. The thing that actually blew us away though, is the “smoked salmon” made of carrot you can see on the sandwich on the bottom right. It was extremely convincing.

I had the root vegetable galette for my main, which was delicious as well. Can highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a vegan restaurant in Amsterdam!

And that brings us to the end of my week. This week I’m going to do a lot of editing, writing and administrative tasks (yay tax season). Hope you have a good one guys, talk to you soon!
