I’m one of those people that like to say they don’t follow trends. You know, the whole “fashion is temporary, style is timeless” thing? It’s not true though. It always takes me a little while to warm up to trends, but often I do end up caving and jumping on the trendy bandwagon.
As far as hairstyles go, like fashion and makeup looks, not everything that’s marked a trend by women’s magazines and trendwatching blogs ends up catching on in the streets. It takes a while for something new to make its way from the catwalk to the street.
Not all hair trends appeal to me (half-up topknot, NO!), and even those that do I often skip (love the lob on others, not even thinking about chopping my own locks off). Every now and then though, a trend comes along that resonates with me right away. I loved the whole bohemian braid thing that was going on a few years back, and now I’ve noticed more and more people wearing the low, sleek ponytail.
Ponytails have been rising higher and higher during the past years, and as always, the reaction to one extreme is the complete opposite. The low, sleek pony has been around on catwalks on and off for a while now, but I feel like it’s finally seeping through to mainstream fashion. I love the low ponytail! It looks sophisticated, chic, it’s easy to create and goes with many different makeup and clothing looks. Plus, it’s really convenient in fall and winter, as you can wear it underneath a hat. I love my hats and am always looking for new ways to wear my hair underneath them, so I’m saluting this new trend.
I prefer wearing my low pony with a strip of hair around the elastic, which makes it look even sleeker. It would also look amazing with one of those metal ponytail holders you see in stores every now and then. I believe I saw one of those at H&M a while back, might go out and get me one!
What do you think of the low ponytail? Yay or nay?
I used to do a low pony all the time 10 years ago (oh.. I’m that old now? Hehe). It is esey to do, and dosn’t need a hairbrush after the initial detangling. However I grew so tired off it. Plain an boring was my thoughts back then. Maybe it’s time to give it another chance :)
I’ve been wearing a low ponytail for a while now & I think it is one of the best hairstyles out there, especially for short to medium length hair like mine. It just makes a normal hair day look chic and classic. I hate trends also, but I feel like this one is timeless. You look great with that hairstyle! Xo
