Whenever I do a Q&A, I always get questions about what music I’m listening to at the moment. You guys seem to be very interested in that, haha! Back when I was a teen, I used to often just sit down and listen to an album. I haven’t done that in a really long time, my relationship with music has changed over the years. Right now I use it mostly as background noise when I’m doing other things. I live alone, and the only downside for me is that it can get a little quiet, so I pretty much always have music on.
Since I’m usually playing music in the background, I like variation. I find I’ve become too impatient to listen to a whole album by one artist, so I prefer playlists that are mixed. I usually have the radio on but after a while it tends to drive me nuts (so much repetition!) so Spotify is my best friend for music, since they have so many great playlists pre-made and ready to be listened to. My favourites are the ones under the “mood” tab, I like all that chilled, singer-songwritery music. My favourite is the very popular Afternoon Acoustic playlist, it’s nice and long as well so I just skip over anything I don’t like.
When I’m working and need to focus, I like to listen to music without lyrics so that the words don’t distract me. The An Instrumental Sunday playlist has been my favourite for a very long time! I also like the Instrumental Study playlist, but that does contain movie soundtracks which tend to distract my brain as it subconsciously tries to figure out where I know this song from, haha! Or as I’m obliged to close my eyes and drift away in nostalgia when anything Lord of the Rings comes on…
Then there’s the guilty pleasures. I love my throwback music, sometimes it’s just so much fun to blast some music from my childhood and do some oldschool playbacking in front of the mirror. Yes, I still do that. Yes, I probably will continue to do so for a few more years. I just enjoy that, ok? Don’t judge, haha! My favourites for this are All Out 00’s and Born in the 90s.
And then, of course, there’s my own playlist. I have one playlist that I actually keep up, and it’s filled with songs that I like. Any song that I like, so it’s a pretty random mixed-genre list that anybody but me probably couldn’t bare listening to, but here it is in case you’re curious. It’s called I Like This because as you know I’m great at coming up with titles, and I’ve been slowly adding songs to it one by one since autumn. Again, please don’t judge, haha! This is a playlist I play very often, and I know the words to all the songs. I do love to sing to these songs, even though my singing voice sounds absolutely atrocious, haha! It’s fun and as long as nobody can hear it, who cares ;)
