Hello my lovely readers! It’s Monday again and I’ve returned to share my photo diary with you. The fast approach of midwinter is becoming more and more clear as the days turn darker and I find myself under artificial light for longer periods of time. Last week there were even a few days I turned the lights on in the morning, and didn’t turn them back off until we went to bed at night. As much as I love early autumn, this later period really isn’t my favourite time of year. I look forward to Christmas but I do wish it would come a bit later so that we’d have something to look forward to in the cold, dark months to come. I say we petition to have Christmas moved to late January, who’s with me? :)
Outift of the day. I’m still living in jeans and sweaters, which I assume I will be until spring. I’m thinking of buying myself some thermals to wear under sweaters for added warmth as I always get cold, even in warm knits. I’m also looking for a nice pair of thick, warm non-jean material trousers that I can pop some fleece-lined leggings under. After it gets below a certain temperature, I feel like jeans simply don’t cut it any more. It’s a bit of a struggle though as so far the only thing I’ve been able to find that fits that description are corduroys and I’ve hated those since my mom made me wear them in the 90’s, haha! If anyone has tips, I’ll be happy to hear them.
Cuddling with my boy Pádraig <3 He always comes out for a little cuddle mid-day when he moves from one sleeping location to another.
Subtle LotR merch on a casual day, haha! You can’t really tell from the blurry photo but this is a replica of the One Ring a viewer sent me a few years back :)
I’m making a tiny bit of progress on my embroidery again! I honestly think I wasn’t far off when I said this would take me five to ten years to finish, considering I got this in February last year. Ah well, slow but steady :) And I do still find it really enjoyable to do every now and then.
As you could see in my last diary, Sinterklaas came to the Netherlands last week. Traditionally children put their shoes by the fireplace so that Sinterklaas or Piet can come down the chimney and put a little present or treat in the shoe. We don’t have a chimney, and we’re not really children any more either, but we tried it anyway and it worked! We found chocolate letters in our shoes next morning :)
I filmed a good old Loepsie-style hair tutorial last week, you can watch it here.
Cuddle pile! The boys all squeezed themselves into one sputnik. Whenever I see them like this I just wish I could shrink down to their size and cuddle up with them as well. They’re so squishy and fluffy!
I can’t even recall how many jeans I’ve torn in this exact spot. I have hip dips which means there’s nothing in that region for jeans to hold on to and they just slide right off my bum. In result I end up yanking them up by the belt loops all the time, until the belt loop gives up and dies, haha! I’ve tried wearing a belt in the past and it does kind of work, but honest confession: belts are just so inconvenient… I drink a lot of tea throughout the day which then means I need to visit the bathroom a lot and I can’t be bothered with a belt. It’s a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils, I’m afraid :)
Strike a pose! At scouting on Friday we made haute couture out of waste material, and this is my creation (minus the shoes which were expertly constructed by my teammate). Of course we had a proper fashion show in the clothing afterwards, followed by an editorial photo shoot. Kind of. Haha!
My brother joined a Pink Floyd cover band a while back and played his first gig with them on Saturday. They were amazing! I’m a very proud sister.
Always have to share my breakfast with the boys.
On Sunday my family and I headed to the Country & Christmas Fair in Haarzuilens, on the castle grounds where Elfia is held as well. We’d never been to this fair before so we decided to check it out and it was really fun! Lots of different marketstalls with gifts, decorations, winter apparel and delicious food.
It was a cold and gloomy day, but a really nice one nonetheless. We headed home a bit sooner than planned because of the cold, but we did manage to see everything we wanted to. In the evening Robbert and I started watching Maniac on Netflix. We’ve watched two episodes so far and we’re not really sure what to think of it at this point, hopefully it takes off in the next few episodes. We just finished watching the new season of the Sinner before this by the way, and that was amazing. Highly recommend that if you’re looking for something to watch.
So that brings us to the end of my week. I hope you’ve had an amazing one as well guys, I’ll talk to you soon!
Hey Lucy!
A late read in the week for me! But I wanted to mention that I have been watching a show called Outlander, if you haven’t heard of it before, it is amazing! A very cool story. It started as a series of books by Dania Gabaldon, which I have only started reading, but it’s (obviously) just as good as the TV show ^^
I love boucle trousers. So soft and comfortable! Very warm too ;)
Hey Lucy!
Maybe you could try a pair of cigarette trousers? They look super chic plus you can definitely dress them up or down.
Also, may I ask what your nail polish is in the picture with the LOTR necklace? I love it!
Have a nice week!
-Caroline
Thanks for the tip! I’m wearing Catrice Karl Says Très Chic, it’s one of my favs :)
