Pumpkin spice season is in full swing, and the famous pumpkin spice lattes are being sold like crazy. I tried one once and have to admit, it was WAY to sweet for me. Plus, I’m not a big fan of coffee in general. When I crave something similar to coffee that’ll give me an energy kick as well, I prefer to go for chai tea; the Indian tea and spices blend steeped in warm milk. If you’ve never tried that, you’ve really missed out.
I decided to combine the best of both worlds and make this delicious pumpkin spice chai latte with almond milk. It’s pretty much autumnal heaven in a cup, guys…
Ingredients
Black tea
Pumpkin pie spice
Almond milk
Sugar, honey or another sweetner
Start by combining a teaspoon of black tea (I emptied a packet of breakfast blend), and about the same amount of pumpkin pie spice in a disposable tea bag or strainer. For my Dutch readers, I used “koek en speculaaskruiden” instead of pumpkin pie spice, which is a very similar spice blend.
Heat up a cup of almond milk, I used my frother for this, to get a little bit of foam on top. Just adds a little bit extra, don’t you think? Dip the tea bag into the hot milk and steep for at least five minutes. Make it nice and strong!
When you take out the tea bag, it’s time to add your sweetener of choice. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth so the sugar in the almond milk is enough for me, but feel free to go wild with this. I believe original chai is quite sweet.
And there’s your pumpkin spice chai latte! It’s not technically really a chai since we used different spices, but it’s amazing anyway. Indulge and enjoy!
Hey Lucy! I was wondering if I can replace the black tea with cardamom tea? The cardamom tea tastes much better than black tea. I love your videos and blogposts! You inspire me so much, and made me realize that I can also be independent and show the world who I am. Thank you so much for everything and keep inspiring other people :)
I don’t see why not! It will taste a little different but I think cardamom would go great with the rest of the spices :) And thank you! <3
I’m glad you used almond milk! It’s one of my favorite non dairy milks! I’m so excited to try this recipe. Thank you for this recipe!
Hey! Thar looks delicious, I’ve never had pumpkin spice latte myself but being a black tea lover I’m sure I’ll enjoy your recipe! Do you what spices your mix contains? Is it like gingerbread spices?
It’s pretty similar to gingerbread spice, if you have that I’m sure that’ll work really well with this recipe :)
Wow, I spent all past autumn googling recipes for healthy and less sweet alternatives of the starbucks’ beverage, but didn’t find anything that good and easy! Thanks!
P.S. I will sprinkle cinnamon on top, but that’s just because i sprinkle cinnamon on top of anything :D
this looks delicious! I love getting pumpkin spice soy chai lattes at starbucks but they are full of sugar and too expensive. This sounds like the perfect homemade alternative, thanks!
