A while back I showed you the new liquid version of the ever so popular Hoola bronzer that Benefit brought out, but there’s more… They also came out with a version for the body! Benefit Hoola Zero Tanlines is a liquid bronzer that you can use all over your body for a temporary, natural looking tan. Like the original Hoola bronzer, Zero Tanlines contains no red pigments, so a natural look is guaranteed.
The packaging is very Benefit-esque, haha! The tube is wearing a bronze coloured hawaiian skirt, which actually has the applicator sponge hidden inside. The sponge was designed to allow for easy, streak-free and hands-free application. I have to say it works quite well, if you apply the product in small, circular motions like the instructions say, it’s really easy to apply a thin, even layer and blend out the edges. The sponge is dark so that it won’t stain as badly.
So, let’s give this a go! I applied Benefit Hoola Zero Tanlines on the inner part of my arm, where I’m quite pale.
First impression: awesome! My left arm looks like I’ve been out in the sun for a few days, it looks very natural. This is one layer of product, but it’s buildable so you could go darker if you wanted (or if your own skincolour is darker than mine and the effect with one layer isn’t so dramatic). Mind you, I didn’t blend the product out on my arm so that I could see the contrast. You can definitely blend it out nicely without much effort!
Once the bronzer has dried, it feels a tiny bit sticky still, but it barely transfers. I’m not sure I’d wear this with white clothing, but anything darker should definitely be fine. As for lasting power, the bronzer will stay on unless it comes into contact with water. I don’t recommend wearing this if you’re expecting to get wet or very sweaty.
Out of the tube, Benefit Hoola Zero Tanlines has a very pleasant, summery kind of tropical sunscreen scent. For some reason when I apply it though, the fragrance mixes with my own skin and the resulting smell reminds me of soy sauce, hmmm… That may be something very personal though, do give the tester tube a go before you purchase this!
All in all, the Benefit Hoola Zero Tanlines liquid body bronzer is something I would definitely wear to a party where I want my legs to have a little bit more colour when sticking out beneath a short dress, but not on an everyday basis. If you’re looking for a self-tanner without the commitment, this is a good option for you as well, just beware that it does come off when it gets too wet.
Benefit Hoola Zero Tanlines is available in the Netherlands at Douglas for €32,50.
