I’m baaaack! My last vacation is over and I’m currently recovering from a week very pleasantly and intensely spent in Germany, haha. I experienced my first ever grown-up summer camp in the beautiful Eiffel area where we hiked, swam and played every day until we fell down on our sleeping bags with contented exhaustion. On the last day we wanted to pay a visit to a nearby city, and we decided to go for Köln. Oh my, what a great choice! The city is absolutely beautiful, I didn’t know where to go or look first. What I did however know, was that I wasn’t about to leave Cologne without a proper Eau de Cologne from the original 4711 brand. I ended up with the 4711 Acqua Colonia Lavender & Thyme.
4711 Eau de Cologne is the queen of classic perfumes, if you ask me. It has been around since 1799 (probably even earlier), using the same formula until this very day. It’s history in a bottle and if you know me at all, you’ll know I find that very exciting. It’s history in a bottle for me on a more personal level as well, as my granny has been using this perfume ever since I can remember. She always has a bottle of it in her cupboard and the scent instantly reminds me of her.
We ended up (pretty much by accident) in the 4711 flagship store in Köln, and I was trying to decide what size bottle to get, when my eye wandered to the left where they had a collection of newer fragrances, featuring the original formula with slight alterations or additions. I started smelling those and although I have to say all of them were amazing, I instantly fell in love with the lavender & thyme one. It smells JUST like the original 4711 scent, with just a little hint of lavender. I find it hard to detect the thyme because the scent smells quite complicated, but it’s amazing. A-ma-zing. Fair warning though, it’s a little bit of an old people smell. If you’re not into that you may want to skip this one, haha!
I really like the bottle the scent comes in, it looks very vintage and classy.
The fragrance, like the original eau de cologne, fades very quickly. It lasts a little longer when sprayed on clothes or hair, but don’t expect this to linger all day.
4711 Acqua Colonia Lavender & Thyme fills me with warm, fuzzy feelings and lots of memories from both my childhood and my summer camp in Germany, and this is one scent I know I’ll cherish for a long time.
I want to smell it now! >:(
Prachtige foto’s! En het feit dat het parfum geschiedenis met zich mee draagt geeft idd een bijzonder gevoel =)
