DIY Deep Photo Frame

I’ve been eyeing those really deep picture frames for a while now. I think they’re really cute, but their potential’s often wasted when people simply put a picture in. There’s so much more you could do with these frames! I decided to buy one and make it into a cute seasonal decoration.

I found this one at Action for under €2, and wanted to do something fun with it. This is a really nice and easy way to decorate with items you probably already have! All you need to get is a deep photo frame.

Take the back off your frame. Mine consists of these parts. I decided to remove the white border to leave more room for decorations, and only use the black frame that holds the backing.

Now’s the time to decide what you want to put in your frame. I made a autumnal frame and a Christmas themed one, but you can use whatever you want: baby’s first photo and socks, you wedding photo and a flower from the bouquet, an old newspaper and writing utencils… Anything you like and fits inside your frame! Just remember to pick some type of paper and some small items.

Lay your items out on the glass, and cover it with the paper (or photo, print, etc.).

Next, put the backing back on and close the closures (best scentence ever).

And here’s your photo frame decoration! As long as the decorations are large enough to be pressed against the glass by the backing, you can place the frame upright and the items won’t move. Smaller ones will fall to the bottom of the frame.

I made one for Christmas as well! One can never have enough Christmas decor, right?

I used cotton balls for snow and placed a candy cane and some gift wrapping decorations to fill up the rest of the space and give it an extra christmassy feel.

Looks festive, don’t you think? Looking back, this would be really cute if you use a nighttime snowy cityscape as a background!

This DIY is really easy to make and I think it’s absolutely adorable. Imagine propping this up on your mantle and changing it every season! I love it.
