DIY Blossoms & Nuts Hair Oil

Since the very beginning of my career as a hair YouTuber I’ve sworn by natural oils for hair care. The type of oil I use has varied throughout the years, but I’ve always put natural oils at the top of my hair care must have list. Although using one pure oil on your hair is wonderful, using a combination of multiple is just that little bit more luxurious and allows you to reap even more benefits in one go. Today I’m going to share the recipe for my Blossoms & Nuts hair oil, which helps stimulate hair growth, prevent breakage and add beautiful shine and softness to the hair.

Nut oils are amazing hair conditioners. They contain omega-3 fatty acid, have anti-inflammatory properties and provide lots of moisture for the hair. In this serum I’ve combined the power of walnut and almond oil with the hair growth stimulating and scalp conditioning forces of flaxseed and castor oil. Add a few drops of rose and bergamot essential oil for a lovely flowery scent, and you’re all good to go. Prepare for a luscious, shiny head of hair!

Ingredients

1 part flaxseed oil
1 part castor oil
1 1/2 part sweet almond oil
1/2 part walnut oil
Rose essential oil
Bergamot essential oil
A bottle or container, preferably with a pump or dropper

If you find it easier to visualise: 1 part comes down to a quarter of the container you’re using.

Pour all your oils into a bottle (use a funnel if necessary) and stir together. Slowly start adding your essential oils, two drops rose to one drop bergamot. I’d suggest adding three to five drops every time, stirring well, and then having a sniff. Keep adding drops until the essential oil scent is present but not too overwhelming. Definitely don’t add too much as essential oils can irritate the skin. When in doubt, it’s better to use too little than too much. I used 20 drops of rose and 10 drops of bergamot on 100 ml of hair oil. Close your bottle with a cap that’ll provide easy dispension, and you’re done!

There are many ways you can use this potion. One of my favourites is to warm a little up in the microwave and do a hot oil treatment. Apply the warm (not hot!) oil all throughout your hair, root to tips, and thoroughly massage it into the scalp. Cover with a shower cap and leave on for as long as possible (but at least an hour) before washing it out with shampoo. This will allow the oil to work all its hair growth stimulating magic, and really deep condition your ends.

You can use it as a leave in conditioner by applying a few drops of hair oil to the lengths and ends of your towel-dry hair after washing. Or use it as a shine treatment by applying the tiniest amount onto dry hair. That is also a great way to smooth out braids and buns, by the way! Just run a little through your sections before you braid them to create beautiful shiny, uniform strands.

This oil blend works wonderfully on the skin as well. You can use it as a massage oil, rub it into dry patches of skin, or use it as a cuticle oil.

Oh, just a side note, if you have allergies or a reaction to any of the ingredients please don’t use them. Pretty much any ingredient can be swapped for something else and you’ll get a slightly different but most likely still functional and great hair oil. Any oil you use for cooking will work on hair, although some are heavier than others and take longer to absorb. Enjoy your new hair oil!

  1. Thank your for sharing. I followed you on youtube too. I tried this but I found it hard to have a clear texture like yours. Mine look cloudy somehow and its weighing my hair down, any tips?

  2. Hi Lucy
how do you mix all these oils?
It isn’t too heavy for the hair?

I want to try it because you have such an amazing hair

      1. I just wanted to give you a heads up and then you can delete my comment (didn’t know where to do it privately, I’m so sorry)

For the little About Me that you have at the bottom there, just two corrections:

        Enthusiast
        Mischievous rats

Congratulations to you and your fiancé and I’ve loved your channel for years now ❤️

        Keep it up!

      2. Ah, thank you for the “enthusiast”! However, a group of rats is called a mischief, so that part is correct ;) It’s a very fitting description too, haha!

    1. I found flaxseed oil in my local supermarket and castor oil in a health food store, but I don’t know where they’ll sell it where you live, of course 😅

  3. Ooh I’m definitely going to keep this in mind for once I run out of my current hair oil! I love the idea of having a multi-purpose oil for the hair and face. My skin is extremely sensitive so I think if I were to make this for my face too, I would omit the essential oils and maybe add a bit of rosehip oil instead. :)

  4. Thanks for the tips! Also, I can practically hear you saying this stuff the way you do in your videos 🤣
