Night Stand Essentials

Ok, so technically I don’t have a night stand, but I have a little basket next to my bed that I like to think of as a make-shift night stand. It contains a bunch of things I like to have near me when I’m in bed, or use right before I go to sleep. They’re mostly beauty products so let’s take a look at what I have in there!

Nightstand 1

Hand cream

This hand cream by Deep Steep is all natural and smells amazing. I like to apply a hand cream before I go to sleep, since it’s pretty much the only time during the day when I can keep a hand cream on my hands for more than ten minutes, haha!

Nightstand 2

Calming Massage Oil

This little bottle used to contain a lavender massage oil from The Body Shop, but when I ran out I re-filled it with vegetable oil and a few drops of a calming essential oil mix that contains lavender and chamomile, among others. It’s one of those smells that just instantly brings you into a snoozing state, and I find myself applying it on my hands or temples more often than using it as an actual massage oil. It’s all about the scent!

Nightstand 3

Sleeping Mask

Ok, so I don’t actually use this one since I have a good set of curtains that block the light, but I thought this would be a nice place to store a sleeping mask. I use it when I travel.

Nightstand 4

Lip Balm

I always keep some type of lip balm in my night stand basket, and at the moment it’s the Vaseline Rosy Lips tin. I like to use lip balm in a tin before bed, since my hands are always clean then and I don’t have to worry about getting germs in my lip balm. This one has a nice soft smell and it works well on dry & chapped lips.

Nightstand 5

Cuticle Oil

As with hand cream, cuticle oil is one of the things I can’t be bothered with applying since I’m very likely to wash or rub it off before the oil has been able to do its job. When I apply it before bed, I know it’ll have all night to work its magic on my cuticles. At the moment I’m using the Scholl Velvet Smooth cuticle oil.

Nightstand 6

Earplugs

I wish I didn’t need these, but sometimes I do, and it’s nice to have them handy. I live next to quite a busy road, and when I first moved here that took some getting used to. The sound of cars doesn’t bother me anymore now, but every now and then there will be people shouting outside, or a neighbour will host a party, and then I still reach for my earplugs. I also always carry these with me when I travel; can’t even remember how often having these has saved me.

Nightstand 7

Massage Bar

GUYS! Next time you enter a Lush story, promise me to go and smell this massage bar. It’s the “Shades of Earl Grey” one and it has the most amazing fresh tea scent in the world. I’m head over heels in love with it, sometimes when there’s a bit of a draught I catch a whiff of it and it makes me so happy.

Nightstand 8

Notebook

I’m one of those people that can lay in bed for hours thinking about stuff I shouldn’t be thinking about right now. For those nights, I like to keep a notebook near me, to do a little brain dump session and get it all out, without having to worry about forgetting anything. I also sometimes use this to write down good things that have happened or nice things people have said to me; like a little gratitude journal. I should be more consistent with that, though.

Nightstand 9

Hand Cream

And lastly, another hand cream. This is Lush Tiny Hands and I’ve had it for a long time. I really like it but it’s quite oily and takes a while to soak in, so I keep it by my bed to use at night when it actually has the time to soak in. I need to remember to use this more often.

Besides all of this, I always have a book (or two) and a glass of water on my night stand (or actually on the little cabinet beside my bed, haha). What do you keep inside your night stand?

  1. Lucy, this is the second time since I am following you, that I want to suggest a topic for your blog/vlog and you do it next week :D
Thanks for sharing :) I used to have a basket as my night stand too, when I was only renting a room with my bf. Now we rent a whole flat so there is enough space to have a proper night stand. But I still use that basket to hold all my creams.
