To Sunscreen or Not to Sunscreen

I’m a beauty blogger. I’m supposed to wear at least SPF 20 underneath my makeup every day. I’m supposed to wear sunscreen no matter the season, to prevent premature aging of the skin and melanoma. To be honest, I could never be bothered with daily SPF, but this year I’m taking it a bit further. Yesterday I applied sunscreen for the first time this year, on my shoulders, nose, feet and calves.

For years I’ve been told by magazines and YouTubers and pretty much every beauty authority that wearing sunscreen daily is an absolute must. And I agree it’s super important to protect your skin from excess sun exposure, but that’s the key right there: EXCESS sun exposure. I live in a Northern European country where 60% of adults and one in three children suffer from vitamin D deficiency, and the sun barely ever shines; it’s not hard to avoid excess sun exposure over here, but avoiding sunshine altogether isn’t good either and has its own whole set of health risks. Research in Sweden has showed that the benefits of sun exposure might just outweigh the risk of developing melanoma in countries with a low UV index. In fact, vitamin D deficiency and insufficient sun exposure apparently make melanomas more malignant. This “pop” but cited article is also interesting and lists a number of health benefits to be gained from adequate sun exposure (always take things like this with a grain of salt, please). I personally used to wear sunscreen religiously in the summer for years, and I’d always feel blue in winter. Mind you, I haven’t gotten my blood tested, but I do know I’ve had the smoothest winter in ages since I started supplementing vitamin D and going outside daily in the cold, dark months.

How To Clean Beauty Tools

It’s so important to clean your beauty tools regularly. They make wonderful breeding grounds for bacteria which, if you continue to use dirty tools, get applied right back onto your body. In this video I’m going to show you how you can clean your makeup sponges, makeup brushes, hair brushes and combs, and tools like tweezers and eyelash curlers. Enjoy!

I’m using some products that I got sent from The Brush Bar in this video, which help me take my brush cleaning game to another level. The brush board is a textured board that you can swirl your brushes on, dipped in some baby shampoo. The different textures on the board will help remove all makeup and dirt from your brushes perfectly, with very little effort. After rinsing the brush, use the Brush Bar to dry your brushes upside down, so that no water gets into the metal part near the handle. Constant exposure to water can break down the glue that attaches the bristles to the handle, causing the bristles to fall out. The Brush Bar dries brushes super quickly and safely. Definitely check them out! 🙂

Bachelorette, House Viewing, Evanescence | Loepsie’s Life

Happy Monday everybody! I hope your day is a sunny as mine. This past week has been another busy one. I went to a bachelorette party, had a dance performance, a house viewing, an outdoor party and a concert. My life is super exciting at the moment but let me tell you, I’m so ready for things to quiet down. This week should be a little calmer though and so should the next, so I hope I’ll be able to get a lot of work done and get ahead with uploading as much as I can. Let’s take a look at all the photos I took last week!

On Monday I spent some time trying to figure out how accounting works and what I’m legally obliged to do, now that I own a business. It’s so complicated! I’d like to do everything myself so that I won’t have to hire an accountant, but I’m struggling a little. I still have faith that I might understand everything on my own, if I invest enough time in it. Who looks this happy while doing business admin and accounting, though???

Style Revival: Regency

Oh yes, Style Revival is here! I’ve had the idea for a series where I do modern takes on historical looks for a while, but it took me a while to figure out the format I wanted to do and come up with a good title. Now I’m all ready to go so I proudly present to you: the first episode of Style Revival! In this episode I’m going to pull the regency era style into modern times to create a wearable head to toe look inspired by the time of Jane Austen novels. Hope you enjoy! 🙂

Mediterranean Pasta Salad | Recipe

Delicious vegan Mediterranean pasta salad. Perfect to share with friends on a hot summer night :)

Granted, this is not the most photogenic dish I have produced. But what it lacks in looks, it makes up for in flavour. This mediterranean pasta salad is possibly the most delicious pasta salad I’ve ever made. It’s absolutely perfect for bringing to a (veggie) barbecue, a potluck picknick, or as a stand-alone dish on warm summer nights. It features some of my favourite flavours from the Mediterranean, is entirely plant-based, and is super quick and easy to make. In the summer when it’s really warm outside, I just don’t feel like standing in a hot kitchen for too long so I’ll reach for uncooked food more quickly. That means lots of crispy fresh veggies, but also some of those delicious pickled or oiled treats from jars. Let’s keep it realistic, yeah 🙂
