Sunshine & Elfia | Loepsie’s Life

Happy Monday everybody! I hope your week is off to a great start. I’m back again with my weekly photo diary, to show you everything I was up to last week. Summer suddenly arrived in the Netherlands, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The balcony quickly turned into the most used room in the house, and I spent a great deal of time out and about as well. Let’s take a look!

Enjoying a simple lunch in the sun on Monday.

As promised last week: grocery hauls are back! This week I got chicory, disinfecting wipes, cherry tomatoes, cranberry flavour green tea, gnocci, cookies, soy butter, orange juice, pasta sauce, kale, vegan pâte, chopped veggies, peppers, crisps, frozen grilled vegetables, peanut butter, lentils, hummus, bananas and bread.

I never would’ve guessed it in autumn and winter, but apparently our balcony catches a lot of sunlight. I could feel it burning on my skin after just a few minutes, so I spent most of my time wearing a large floppy sun hat. The neighbours must think I’m such a diva, haha!

It also helps with actually being able to see my laptop screen. This is the biggest downside of working outside, especially when you’re editing images!

A while back I saw a closet purge video where the YouTuber was advertising this handheld steamer. I totally got influencered, as Robbert and I ended up buying it a few days later. I have to say, no regrets here. It’s from Philips, I think it’s gorgeous, and it works great. I’ve never owned a steamer before but this is so much more convenient than ironing!

Taking the scenic route to the store to enjoy some more sunshine and fresh air.

Breakfast with the boys! I’ve made the mistake of feeding them little bits of my breakfast before, and now they’ll hang out under my bowl every morning begging for a bite. Which they always get, because look at their little faces. This is one of my favourite moments of the day.

Heading out to my friend’s house for D&D on Wednesday evening.

We were going to have dinner at her place, but our train got delayed by half an hour so I quickly grabbed some little strawberries to haul me over.

The poor ratties were so hot this week! I had the windows open all the time, gave them a little bowl of water and occasionally wet their backs to help them cool off. Luckily their cage is always in the shade.

Behind the scenes of filming a Style Revival. When I say “I’m going to give my curls a few minutes to cool down” on camera, this is what what actually looks like, hahaha!

The finished look is a bit more elegant. I think this might be one of my favourites to date!

The photo above will be the last time you see me without glasses for a while. My eyes had been getting irritated whenever I wore contacts for about a week, so I booked an appointment with my optometrist to have them checked out. Turns out I’ve been wearing my contacts for too long and my eyes aren’t having it anymore. I can’t wear contacts now for at least a month, so glasses it is!

I’ve been steaming everything, including the sofa. Not sure it did anything but hey, it won’t hurt :)

There’s nothing quite as refreshing as cold water with lemon and mint.

We had some overripe bananas laying around so I decided to bake a chocolate chip walnut banana bread. The recipe is up in case you’re interested!

On Friday afternoon I had a meeting in central Amsterdam, discussing a very fun project I’ll possibly be working on soon. I’ll let you know more about that soon if I end up doing it!

Saturday was Elfia! I’ve been visiting this event, previously known as the Elf Fantasy Fair, for eleven years now (which is insane, by the way). It was lovely as always! In case you don’t know, Elfia is a fantasy fair with loads of market stalls selling all kinds of fantasy items, live music, workshops and demonstrations. It’s a costumed event and people put loads of effort into their costumes. I didn’t really feel like dressing up this year so I put on this simple dress with just a touch of fairy :)

It was super hot so I was actually really glad I wasn’t wearing a full costume. I was there with my family and we had a wonderful time.

When I got home in the evening, Robbert and I ordered the new vegan pizzas New York Pizza now offers in the Netherlands. They were good, but not amazing, I have to say. The shoarma one is my favourite, but I think I prefer the California Veggie with no cheese I usually order.

On both Saturday and Sunday we somehow ended up around a campfire with friends at the scouting in the evening. We had a spontaneous little barbecue there on Sunday which was really fun. I ended up walking to the scouting as Robbert and I currently only have one functioning bike, and he had already taken it there a few hours before. The sun was still out though, so it was a lovely walk, and there was a nice reward waiting at the end in the form of veggie burgers :)

And that marked the end of my week! This week is supposed to be much colder, which I think will actually be good. I do find it hard to focus and get a lot of work done when it’s so warm out. All I want to do is bask in the sunshine, haha :) Let’s hope I can make a headstart this week. Oh, and Kingsday is coming up this Friday! Robbert and I still haven’t decided what we’re going to do, but I’m sure it’s going to be fun no matter what we end up doing. Have a great week, everybody!

  1. Hi Lucy :)
I had a similar issue with contact lenses.. I was actually wearing them way way too much, like (7am-12pm) every day or even sleeping with them (!!!), which is completely crazy and quite dangerous (except uncomfortable) and I had a lot of eye irritation. Now I only wear them when I go to a party or a fancy night out (only for few hours) and I’m fine with that.
I think glasses are cool, and yours are definitely looking great on you :)

Your posts brighten my day as always, and I loved the balcony picture in the 40s look :D

  2. Hey Lucy,
that photo of yours with your red headphones and 40s look – really chic somehow, I love how the red of the headphones fits your lipstick ;)

It’s funny that the general weather here (central Germany) is mainly the same as in Amsterdam, it makes it so much more relatable to read about not feeling productive with having sitting in the sun as another option.
Your balcony inspired me to give mine a makeover, hopefully I’ll find the time for it soon!
    Love from Germany
