A Millennial Without Her Phone | Loepsie’s Life

Hello my lovely readers, I hope you’re all doing well! As you can probably deduct from the title, I spent last week rather phoneless. I’ll give you more of that story later on in the diary, but that’s why there’s a good few days missing here. I did have a really lovely, surprisingly warm and sunny, week regardless, so let’s take a look at the photos I took when I did actually have a phone :)

Starting the week right with a breakfast of vegan yogurt, chocolate and nut granola, and what may well be the last of this year’s strawberries.

I’ve noticed I’m leaning more and more towards vintage style fashion as time goes by. Not nearly every day and I don’t think I want to go full vintage at this point, but I’d love to find some more staple pieces that I could use to make more vintage looking combinations with what I already have in my wardrobe. Step one is to find a pretty knee-length skirt, that’ll feel nice and 50’s, but not full grandma like this calf-length one here. Haha! Not that I mind going full grandma, I’d actually say that’s kind of my thing, but still :)

Tuesday was an absolutely beautiful sunny day, so I decided to take a little walk in the park and try to take some autumnal photos of the trees. I came a bit too early for that as the trees were pretty much all green still, but it was a lovely walk nonetheless.

We had a nice dinner of whatever’s left in the fridge & pantry that night. Herb-y pumpkin, peppers and onion on a bed of mustard quinoa. It was quite nice, I have to say!

Later that night, Robbert’s phone slipped out of his hand and landed corner down straight into one of the cracks on my phone screen. My screen has been cracked since before summer but I hadn’t gotten around to fixing it yet as the cracks were only along the outer edge so it wasn’t that urgent (I thought). Anyways, right where Robbert’s phone landed, a purple and black patch appeared on my screen which got bigger and bigger as the hours went by, leaving it completely black by the end of next day. We decided to order a new phone right that night so that it would be delivered the next day. I vlogged my phoneless life all of next day, planning to end with an unboxing of the new phone that night, but it didn’t arrive. I stayed up all evening because the track & trace still said the delivery man was on his way, but he didn’t come. Next day it turned out he wasn’t coming as soon as possible as track & trace said, but he would come in the evening. I wasn’t happy but hey, I can go two days without a phone. Only he didn’t come. We had to call three different people at the post’s customer service until someone was willing to admit to us that despite what the track & trace said, the package wasn’t coming until at least the next evening.

By that point I was really done with the post service, so on Friday I hopped on my bike, cycled to an electronics store I trust, and bought the phone there. It even turned out to be on sale that day which I didn’t know, so that was amazing. I let the online store know I would be returning the package, and that was the first part of the ordeal done. Now I just need to hope the post service actually returns the package in good order and I can get my money back!

Not going to lie, I rely on my phone a lot (even more than I thought, as I experienced this week) and I found it much harder than expected to deal with not having it. I mostly felt very vulnerable whenever I left the house, knowing I couldn’t call for help or find my way if I’d get lost somewhere. Part of why I was so frustrated and upset is also the fact that I was expecting the package every day and it just wouldn’t come, even if the track & trace said it was on its way. I have a hard time dealing with unexpected changed and unfulfilled promises, haha! This whole thing has taught me that that’s something I need to work on even more than I’ve done so far.

Anyways, that brings us to Friday afternoon, and I have a new phone!

I’m now the owner of a Samsung Galaxy A8, with a glass screen protector and heavy duty phone case, haha! I have the worst luck when it comes to phones, I seriously don’t know anybody else who breaks them at the rate that I do. It always happens in a freak accident too, so weird. Anyways, this phone has a  bit of a nicer camera so hopefully I’ll be able to supply you with better pictures from now on. I quite like this blurred background thing it does with the front camera.

Friday evening was the time of my elementary school reunion. I got invited a few months back but wasn’t sure I’d go until earlier this week. I was a bit nervous about seeing my classmates again, but I’m SO GLAD I went! I found this picture of myself up on the wall, it’s from 1997, hahaha! Rocking the bangs, of course :)
In the Netherlands you’re in elementary school ages 4 to 12, by the way. I believe this was my first or second year, and I finished in 2005.

The people I was most apprehensive about meeting didn’t show up, and everybody who was there was super nice. It’s the weirdest thing, seeing these people all grown up! You have memories of them as little children and suddenly they’re these adults that you instantly recognise, but who look completely different at the same time. Such a surreal experience. We all talked for hours, catching up and bringing back memories. After the official reunion ended a bunch of us sat down at a bar for a few drinks. It was an absolutely lovely night, we all got along much better than we did as kids (lol) and I’m just very pleased with the way it went down. Great vibes!

On Saturday I went over to visit my parents, and my mom and I ended up on a spontaneous shopping trip to the garden center. I’d been wanting to get a large plant for the living room for a while, so we went ahead and picked this one. I think it’s just perfect here! I use this corner of the room as a background for filming so I hope this will help spruce that up a little.

I also got this beautiful plant right here…

And a few more. Oops! :) I just really love plants and I’d love to get more of that urban jungle vibe going in our home. I also spent some time caring for the old plants. Dusting their leaves, cutting away any dead or overgrown bits… Needs to happen every once in a while.

I’ve noticed the rats love to hop into our planters and dig away in the soil, so I decided to get them this cat grass which they can safely dig into and eat. They absolutely love rummaging through the grass and eating the seeds!

Our Sunday morning breakfast with croissants :)

There was an organic market in the park this afternoon so I hopped over to check it out. It was really nice but there were so many people there! I didn’t stay very long.

Much better to sit on the balcony and sew badges onto my campfire blanket poncho, haha! Robbert needed to write a piece so I helped him with that while I was sewing away and having a nice cup of tea. Who would’ve thought we’d be able to sit on the balcony with no coat on in the middle of October? Afterwards we headed over to Robbert’s parents’ house where we had dinner with his family.

And that was my week! All’s well that ends well :)
I hope you’ve had a wonderful week, guys. Talk to you soon!

  1. The weather has been so amazing the last month in the Netherlands! I recently moved here and a friend says I brought summer with me :-D
Also I can totally understand how you felt in the school reunion. (I kind of dread such events, for reasons I can’t pinpoint,or I don’t even want to admit!)

  2. Lovely, lovely piece. My favourite books in the world are where nothing really happens. That’s why I love your blogs and videos – they’re like the books I like to read, but they take much lesser time to go through. So it’s like I get a mini capsule dose of my favourite things every week. Thank you for that!
