Turning 26 | Loepsie’s Life

Happy Monday my lovely readers! Well well, I’ve been rather absent this past week, haven’t I? I started the week bursting with plans and productivity, but unfortunately I crashed down with a flu on Wednesday and had to stay in bed for several days after. It hit hard and sudden and I was completely unable to do anything besides watching a bit of Netflix here and there, but only while lying down. Thus it would seem that my biggest accomplishment this week is watching the entire season of Sex Education on Netflix, haha! Luckily I was able to pick myself back up again pretty quickly, so let’s take a look at what I was up to all the other days.

Now that spring is right around the corner, we’re getting beautiful morning sun in our home again. Behold a pile of basking boys.

Now that my month of curly girl method is over, I was eager to film a new installment of the Pin Curl Diaries. This is the first time I’m doing a wet set again after cutting my hair a bit shorter, and I was shocked by how short my hair looked when it came out of the rollers. I do think my hair looks really cute like this, but I also feel like a completely different person and I’d never want my hair to be this short for real. It’s so much easier to fake short hair than it is to make it longer!

In the afternoon I asked Robbert to come to the park with me to shoot some photos. We chose this spot as a location this time. I really like shooting at the park because there are lots of little nooks you can hide where people won’t stare at you while you’re taking photos. Often when we shoot on the street people will stare while they walk past because it’s quite an odd thing to do, of course. Whenever I feel like people are looking at me and/or silently judging I’ll feel extremely awkward and embarrased and it always shows in the photographs. Best to avoid that.

Luckily we weren’t interrupted this time and it went really well. We took some nice photos, and I put my hood up to protect all the hard work I did to get a nice brush out from my wet set :) I fully understand now why old ladies wear head scarves or those plastic head covers when it’s raining outside.

When we came back, I suddenly didn’t feel too good. We had D&D in the evening and while we were at my friend’s, I felt worse and worse and by the end of the evening I was well and truly ill.

Somehow I’d managed to pin my hair back up again the evening before, but next day I was unable to function whatsoever. I had a fever, sore muscles, runny nose, no appetite and felt weak and tired overall.

Robbert brought the ratties over for a visit which cheered me right up, but I definitely had to stay in bed all day. And the next day, too.

On Friday, luckily enough, I felt much better again. It was my 26th birthday and I had planned a little celebration in the evening with some friends and family. I took it easy all day and managed to scrub myself clean, pick up around the house, disinfect all door handles and taps (lol), and get some drinks and snacks at the grocery store inbetween rests. My best friend totally saved the day by bringing over a large pot of soup and THREE amazing, vegan, home-baked birthday cakes.

One cake with caramelized apple and spices…

One chocolate cake…

And a birthday cake with elderflower and lemon. They were all incredibly delicious and gorgeous and honestly the best vegan cake I’ve ever had anywhere (prestigious hipster cafés included).

I had such a great time! It was so nice to have everybody together and it really felt like my birthday :)

Next day we took it nice and easy, I don’t even really remember what I did all day. We went over to my parents’ for dinner and I believe that’s pretty much it. I did take this picture of a box full of happy ratties.

On Sunday Robbert had a friend over and I decided to finally get the balcony in spring mode. I put the christmas lights and winter decor away, cleaned the furniture, and put the table and chair back up. Temperatures have been above 10 degrees consistently during the day for a while now so I think it’s about time to start using the balcony again.

I took the cushions out as well, and with a blanket and a cup of tea I was able to enjoy the sun for a few minutes out there. I can’t wait until it gets even warmer and I’ll be able to sit out here all day again!

In the evening we headed to Amsterdam, where we were about to visit an escape room with the scout leaders. This was the fourth escape room I’ve done and I’m now starting to notice certain patterns and learn what things to look out for. I do feel like that makes the game less fun but I can’t not do it, however hard I try, haha! It was still really nice though, and we escaped within the time limit. We went for a little drink afterwards to catch up and see how everybody did (we were split into several teams).

And that brings us to the end of my week! Right now my flu is on its last leg and I only really have a sore throat any more, as well as still feeling a bit weaker than normal. I’m sure it’ll all be gone just in time for my holiday next week, though. Hope you’ve all had a great week guys, talk to you soon!
