Threading: Hair Removal Method

Plucking, waxing, shaving. That, and maybe the occasional hair removal cream, is usually what people think about when it comes to facial hair removal. There is another technique, however, that’s definitely worth considering. Threading has been used by women in the East for centuries, and it’s considered one of the best methods for hair removal, as far as your skin’s health goes.

Threading is really simple. You take a piece of cotton thread, and tie the ends in a knot to make a loop. Give it a few twists to create a spring in the middle of the thread, and put your thumbs and index fingers through the loops. When you open your fingers on one end, the spring will move to the other end. Open your fingers on that end, and the spring will move back.

The movement of the spring is what will remove your facial hair. The spring grabs on to all the little hairs, and as it moves along, the hairs are pulled out. At the same time, the movement of the spring creates a little pressure on your skin which helps reduce the pain and massages the skin, increasing blood flow.

It takes a little practice, but you can achieve great precision with this technique. It’s really easy to imply when you don’t have tweezers on you, and you can cover large areas relatively quickly.

I like to use threading to remove the hairs above my eyebrows, and the hair on my upper lip.

Have you ever tried threading? What did you think?

  1. I tried threading the hair on my chin it got the fine hairs that I don’t mind having. but would not remove the tough hairs that I wanted to get rid of.

  2. Yes in India most women opt for threading their eyebrows… It's a monthly ritual of going to a beauty salon and getting them done. Very few do it at home. After reading this, I feel like trying this method myself on my upper lip.
