Cheerful Monday salutations to you (I fully acknowledge that these openings keep getting more and more bizarre, but what can you do after all these years)! A new week has begun, it’s a sunny day and I’ve had a lovely weekend so I’m ready to tackle whatever lies ahead for me this week. Today I’m back with my weekly photo diary, so let’s take a look at what I was up to last week. It was a good one, let me tell you that!
On Monday evening my dad and I traveled to Utrecht together to see the Dublin Legends, formerly the Dubliners. What a lovely concert that was! These old men were surprisingly full of energy and perfectly capable of getting a full venue to dance and sing for hours. We had a great night.
I’ve been cutting Robbert’s hair for years, but I’ve always just kind of winged it and hoped for the best. With varying results, of course. This time I decided to try a different approach and actually watch a men’s haircut YouTube tutorial. It was really easy to follow and the haircut looks good, although I do think it’s a tad too short on Robbert. I’m going to try another one next time, hopefully I can find one in a bit of a longer style.
I followed another makeup tutorial from a past decade! I love filming these, even though editing them takes forever. The video will be up later this week :)
Wednesday was the day of the Dutch Venom premiere! I’ve been excited about this movie since it got announced, and I feel incredibly lucky I got to go to the premiere.
You can tell I’m excited when I put on my duckface. So 2010.
Venom didn’t disappoint. It has aliens, Tom Hardy, and lots of explosions. It even has Tom Hardy inside an alien inside an explosion, what more could you ask for? Hahaha! No but in all seriousness, going in with the same expectations as any Marvel movie (a cliche storyline and next to no character development but amazing special effects), this is very entertaining. I loved it. And I got handed the manliest goodiebag ever, which was quite hilarious. It had a protein shake and everything!
It’s take-tea-out-on-the-go-weather again. I went over to my friend’s house on Thursday and decided to take some tea with me, which was a good idea. Nothing like a comforting cup of warm tea on public transport and during the chilly wait for the metro.
Robbert was away that evening so when I got home, I took the boys out to play, lit the candles, and watched some home reno shows on TV. One of my favourite ways to spend a quiet evening :)
My brother came over and as we were walking home from the store we came by a flower stall that had these tiny pumpkins on display. I couldn’t resist making the most imulsive impulse purchase in ages, haha! No regrets though, this really is adorable and the perfect little subtle autumn decoration. By the way, who remembers when I’d go into full autumn mode years ago? I had mushroom decorations everywhere, red and orange leaf garlands… Good times.
I keep things a bit more simple nowadays, but aesthetically autumn is still the season I get the most excited about. My autumn wardrobe is my favourite and I do kind of just wear my autumnal pieces year-round. A new favourite is this blazer I got at H&M last summer. It gives that little bit extra to super basic outfits, and adds an instant autumnal vibe.
Friday night I cooked a simple supper for the leaders at scouting, lentil soup and focaccia.
We launched the rockets we made last week with the kids, and I feel like the biggest geek but it was SO COOL! They got much higher than we’d expected and everybody’s rocket worked, even though not all parachutes unfolded. I never would’ve thought I’d enjoy launching home made rockets but I loved it. What do you know.
Afterwards we sewed campfire blankets. Or campfire ponchos, rather. The campfire blanket is a blanket you sew all your old badges on, the ones that don’t fit on your uniform any more or the ones that you aren’t really supposed to attach to your uniform. Over time it should be filled with badges and memories, and keep you warm by the campfire of course. We made ours into ponchos, and I gave mine a pointed hood. Looks very Lord of the Rings, don’t you think?
Next day I sat down to continue working on my poncho. It’s hand-sewn so it took a bit of work, but I’m so happy with the result! I gave it buttons at the front so I can wear it around. Now I just need to sew all my badges on and it’ll be done for now. It’s made out of an old moving blanket, by the way, that’s why the fabric looks so weird. It’s basically just pressed recycled fabrics.
The weather was incredibly lovely this weekend, so on Saturday I went out for a nice run. When I got to the windmill I decided to sit down and enjoy the sun for a while, before running back home again.
This afternoon I finally found the time to make a batch of kimchi! It’s my first time trying it and I do think I’ve made some mistakes (it turned out very wet and I could’ve made more to fill the jar), but hopefully it turns out good or at least edible nonetheless. We’ll find out soon! Kimchi doesn’t need nearly as long to ferment as sauerkraut, so I plan to eat some this week.
In the evening I met up with my old besties from high school. I hadn’t seen them in years but we recently re-connected and decided to meet up. It was so good to see them again and catch up, it instantly felt just like the old days.
Sharing my Sunday morning breakfast with the ratties :)
Sunday was spent at scouting again, as we got together to sit around the campfire and do a bit of woodcarving. I took this opportunity to finally finish that spoon I’ve been working on since August. It needs one more sanding before I can submerge it in oil for a few days, and then it’ll be all done. I can’t wait to start using it!
And that brings us to the end of the week. I’ve had a really great week and I hope you have as well. Talk to you soon!
“a cliche storyline and next to no character development”? I very strongly beg to differ. Exactly how many Marvel movies have you seen? Some of them are a bit basic, but generalizing them as underdeveloped is an underdeveloped statement, begging your pardon.
Oops, didn’t mean to step on anyone’s toes! I’ve seen almost all of them, and that’s my general impression of them, yes. I do love most nonetheless (the Wolverine ones are my absolute fav and actually quite good in storytelling & character development). Underdeveloped isn’t the term I’d use, IMO their focus is often on other filmmaking aspects and that’s completely ok :)
(Edit: AND LET’S NOT FORGET ABOUT DEADPOOL that’s amazing as well)
Your spoon looks amazing! And so does the cloak. :)
