Loepsie’s Life in May

Welcome to the first monthly version of Loepsie’s Life! Ever since I stopped weekly vlogging back in 2016, Loepsie’s Life has been a weekly feature here on the blog. Every week I took you through the photos on my phone to share everything I’ve been up to. For the past couple of months however, I’ve felt I had to really push to make these updates worthwhile. My life is pretty simple and quiet at the moment, and as much as I love that, at a certain point sharing the same routine and events every week gets old. So instead of weekly photo diaries, I’ve decided to switch to one big monthly update where I show you all the exciting (and not so exciting) things I’ve experienced. No worries, it’ll still be filled with peaceful, at-home moments, I just hope I’ll be able to give you a bit more variation in what I share this way.

May was filled with Game of Thrones, vintage clothing, nights in town and sunny days. Let’s take a look!

Precious, curious boys. I’m working on a video about what it’s like to have a mischief of rats at home, so keep an eye out for that soon :)

Robbert and I, along with a few friends of ours, went to Game of Thrones screenings in a theater in Utrecht a few times. In May we stopped going there, but we had our own screenings instead. We set up the beamer in our scout hut, got snacks and drinks and watched the remaining episodes every Monday night. It was a really fun way to experience the last season.

I got invited to the launch party of the new NYX Bare With Me makeup collection in Amsterdam. The event was beautifully set up, but unfortunately I couldn’t stay very long. I did write a review of the products, in case you’re interested.

The reason why I couldn’t stay, is that I was meeting up with my brother to go to the Dutch premiere of The Hustle. It was a lot of fun! I usually take Robbert or my best friend to these, but my brother really enjoys them too and it was really nice to experience this with him.

I’ve been trying to get more wear out of the items in my wardrobe that I tend to forget about. Such as this beautiful crocheted piece!

Campfire food with the explorer scouts. We put potatoes and veggies in aluminium foil and popped them onto the hot coals for a few minutes to cook. It’s a lovely way of preparing food and lots of fun to do :)

This month I had a wonderful collaboration with TopVintage Retro Boutique. I kindly received some beautiful vintage reproduction clothing pieces and filmed another vintage dressing challenge with them. I dressed in vintage style outfits for a week and you can see the result here.

I’m still at the gym twice a week! Their digital, body composition measuring scale is telling me I’ve lost muscle and gained fat since I started going, but somehow I just can’t believe that as my diet hasn’t changed at all and I’ve been able to up my weights by at least 10/15 kg on all the machines since I started from nothing in January. There’s no way I’ve lost muscle, right? I’m also starting to see some muscle definition on my body, so I’m just going to keep going and ignore the odd scale (which claimed I was 74% muscle the first time I used it, anyway :P)

Oh my guys, Eurovision! I still can’t believe the Netherlands won and we’ll be hosting it next year! I watched the semi finals at my friend’s house. Unfortunately I couldn’t watch the finale but I made it home just as they started announcing the results, so I did witness how Duncan won. I’m super excited about it, this is the first Dutch entry I’ve actually liked since Ilse & Waylon a few years back (who came in second after Conchita Wurst). I’m not a massive Eurovision geek, but I do enjoy watching it every year and I definitely plan to attend the next edition. If I manage to get my hands on tickets, that is.

A highlight reel like this always kind of makes it look like all I do is go on fun outings, but in reality the vast majority of my time is still spent working from home. I filmed a bunch of videos this month, including this video where I followed an authentic 1867 hair tutorial.

Afterwards I, still dressed in vintage, hopped over to central Amsterdam to go glow golfing with the explorer scouts. There’s a glow in the dark mini golf venue there and we had an absolute blast. They give you trippy little 3D glasses that make it impossible to even hit the ball, so we decided to play without. It’s hard enough as it is, haha!

The more fun experiences I have in Amsterdam, the more I’m starting to appreciate this city. It’s still not my favourite and I still sigh a breath of relief whenever I get back to Utrecht, but I’m getting used to it and I might even go as far as to say Amsterdam is growing on me.

The next day I was invited to a creative event hosted by Viking. We followed a photography workshop, a wood burning workshop and a calligraphy workshop. It was great fun and I loved meeting new people from all different kinds of blogging niches.

I made a little wooden box with the Tea Time logo :)

Since you guys always seem to love seeing little snippets of life in the Netherlands: this is an underground bike parking garage in Amsterdam. I didn’t think to take a photo inside, but I found this one online of the same location:

It’s a whole garage full of two-tier bike racks. Offers lots of parking space. This one is so massive because it’s right next to the train station. You can check your bike in and out using your public transport card. Pretty cool, right?

There’s nothing like a fridge freshly stocked with veggies and great food.

For the last episode of Game of Thrones, we had a screening at the scouting again but we decided to watch on a bigger screen this time. I’m really sad it’s over now, but eagerly looking forward to the release of the final books. In case you want to know what I thought of the final season; I made a Tea Time video about that.

My little buddy Bran. He’s not named after the GoT character by the way, haha. Bran is an old Celtic name which means… raven. Yep.

I went to see the Swan Lake at the national ballet! Robbert came along with me and my friend this time. It was his first ballet and I don’t think it’s his cup of tea, but he did appreciate it and I’m happy about that.

Spring is in full swing over here. We’ve had some absolutely lovely sunny days and I’m enjoying them to the fullest. Whenever possible I like to set up my laptop outside and work from the balcony.

Matcha tea, still my favourite drink in the morning.

There was a little weed growing in my herb planter, and I left it to grow a bit bigger as I wanted to see what it was. Well, turns out it’s a baby oak tree. I feel really bad for it but it can’t grow in my planter, so I took it out. I wanted to bring it to the scouting to plant it there but we’ve had some really dry and hot days in the meantime, so I’m not sure it’ll survive. We’ll see!

It’s as awesome as ever and I’m happy, that you found a good balance with it that works for you. and damn your brother gets more mature and handsome bye the day (or picture diary that is). I still remember him from your first loepsies life vlog way back from VIDA :)

  2. I missed your weekly posts, so I’m really happy to read this one :-) You look absolutely stunning in red (both instances), by the way. I also love the photo of you and your brother–so sweet! The ratties are absolutely adorable as always.
