Kingsday Weekend | Loepsie’s Life

Happy Monday my lovely readers! I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend and are ready to tackle a brand new week full of energy. Last week I had a very plain and uneventful work week, and a really fun weekend as it was Kingsday in the Netherlands. Let’s take a look at the photos I took!

Starting off with a grocery haul :) I got tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, apples, lettuce, organic feta, blueberries, roasted pepper hummus, diced tomato, orange juice, spicy falafel, mock deli meat, canned peach, vitamins, red pepper pesto, pita bread, focaccia, pasta, pistachios, chickpeas, organic dishwasher tablets and dark bread.

Last week I talked about how I won’t be able to wear my contacts for a while, and will have to start wearing them for much shorter periods of time when I’m allowed to use them again. Since then I’ve been working on my relationship with my glasses. I’ve always seen them as part of my lazy loungewear, and they’re not an item I feel particularly pretty in by default. I started looking for ways to really rock them and surprisingly enough, it wasn’t that hard. Honestly just putting on a bit of makeup and doing my already hair helps a lot, haha. I’ve found the vintage hair and makeup look goes great with my glasses on me, so it’s kind of been my go-to for the past few days. Given that I’ll be wearing my glasses a lot more from now on, I did want to get a bit more variety. I decided to order two pairs of glasses from an online store that offers really inexpensive perscription glasses, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what the quality is like. If it’s good, I’ll definitely be ordering more so that I have a couple of nice options to choose from. The glasses in the picture above I ordered with tinted glasses, to function as perscription sunglasses. I’m really bummed out I’m not able to wear all my pretty sunglasses any more, so I wanted to get my hands on some perscription ones ASAP. I think these’ll be gorgeous, can’t wait for them to arrive!

I went into town with my friend for a quick lunch, and to pick up some final bits and bobs for the balcony. I’m almost ready to say it’s done, so now I’m just waiting for the sun to come out so that I can take some pretty pictures of it for a blog post.

I got this orange bunting as a gift with purchase from one of the stores I visited, just in time for Kingsday! I tried to hang it up on the balcony but I couldn’t fasten it properly and it kept blowing off, haha.

I decided to finally implement a tip I’ve heard a hundred times, but never tried: to set a timer on my phone and clean as much as I can around the house in that set time. I took an hour in the middle of my work day, which was a great way to take a break and get moving. I was surprised by how much I was able to do in that hour! This is something I definitely want to start doing more often.

On Thursday evening I was invited to come see an early screening of Amy Schumer’s new movie I Feel Pretty.

I took my friend for a little girl’s night. This movie is amazing, guys. It’s hilarious and has a wonderful message, I highly recommend it :)

We got a complimentary t-shirt at the screening, orange again because Kingsday is quite a big deal over here, haha. It’s a national holiday where we celebrate the king’s birthday, and the only day when the Dutch get to be a little patriotic. Orange is our national colour because the royal family is the House of Orange-Nassau.

After we got home, the two of us and Robbert decided to head into central Amsterdam for Kings night. Kings night is quite a big event in Amsterdam, with big parties in all the clubs and out on the streets as well. We didn’t visit any clubs as the lines outside were ridiculous, but we had a great time nonetheless.

Next morning I met up with my parents in my hometown. A big part of Kingsday celebrations is that the whole country turns into a giant flea market, where people sell their unwanted belongings on the street. It’s quite a nice experience I have to say, there’s usually food to be had as well and lots of fun activities.

In the evening Robbert and I went to the center again to visit our friends who moved house recently. We checked out their new place and then decided to go out to celebrate the tail end of Kings day. We ended up in a bar that had a live rockabilly band playing. We didn’t stay very long as I was still super tired from the night before, but it was really fun :)

Saturday was the laziest day ever. As you may know I don’t do well on lack of sleep, so understandably two nights out in a row took a bit of a toll on me. The weather was rainy and grey, and we had no obligations anyway so we stayed in bed pretty much all day.

I did bake a carrot cake in the evening though, after this recipe. Yum!

I also started filming the first episode of The Pin Curl Diaries, where I try to perfect my wet set pin curling technique.

Next day I finished filming, edited the video and uploaded it straight away. You can watch it here if you’re interested!

Carrot cake reserves are quickly dwindling… :)

And that’s the end of my week! I hope you have a great week ahead, guys. Talk to you soon!
